Good tidings and happy Super Bowl week to you loyal readers! First of all, I would like to say thank you for making my Top 10 lists the most viewed stories on our site, much to the other writers annoyance.
If you and I have anything in common with most of America, then we both love watching the Super Bowl and the festivities that make it so surreal. To Americans, the Super Bowl is the biggest game of the year that is a disgrace if missed (although World Series is always #1 in my book), but what makes it so interesting to watch? The pre-game show, half-time show, or the game itself? No. Nine out of the ten people I interviewed for a survey (that doesn’t really exist) said they in fact watched the big game for the commercials. Do these thirty-second ads persuade viewers to buy products they don’t need? The overwhelming response was that they are just too funny and if missed will leave the viewer shamed in public for weeks to come.
With iconic ads such as the Mean Joe Green (Coke) and the Macintosh 1984 parody (Apple), Super Bowl commercials have become so popular that most people record the game and fast forward to watch the commercials. After hours of watching, fellow staffer Alex Cooper and I came up with a list that we feel contains the Top 10 funniest Super Bowl commercials we have ever seen. After reading this list, feel free to look up the videos and leave a comment with your own Top 10 or why we were wrong — because I already have your page view.
