The Bixby MCJROTC program finished its competition season with a state championship, an invitational title and one second place.

Junior Ashlynn Johnson, a three-year member and the Unarmed Drill Team commander, said her squad prepared for months because timing is everything in the event or points will be deducted.

Before performances, the team says, “Hey, we’re going to be the best we can be and the best there.” With such great morale and optimism, it is no surprise how successful they are. Johnson described their victories as “one of the best feelings.”

Johnson says her goal is to be commanding officer next year and “stay a state champion.”

Following is a rundown of the JROTC units success:

  • Navy Marine Corps Overall JROTC Unit – State Champions
  • Unarmed Inspection – State Champions
  • Armed Inspection – State Champions
  • Armed Color Guard – State Champions
  • Unarmed Exhibition – State Champions
  • Overall Armed Division – State Champions
  • Overall Unarmed Division – State Champions
  • 2017 Overall JROTC Drill Team – Oklahoma State Champions
