Bixby Basketball: On The Rise

Coach Nate Smith

The Bixby High boys basketball team is definitely something to pay attention to this year.

New coach Nate Smith says he is amped and optimistic about leading the team into the season.

Bixby’s district rival, Union, lost NCAA Division I players to graduation, but that team will remain formidable. Smith says other contenders include Sands Springs, with its star player Cole Savage, and highly competitive Broken Arrow. Smith says he’s confident that Bixby’s defense can lock down those challenging teams and win some significant games in the district.

Smith notes the hard work that Sam Hink has put in and says the senior has been practicing his shooting game after conventional team practices and exceeding the effort that is asked.

Smith also praises Parker Moore, whom he calls a natural leader with the ability to drive this team down the right path. Smith says Parker is great at helping his teammates understand plays and is good at motivating the team to work hard.

Smith says he is using the same tactics at Bixby as he used in his years of coaching at Owasso, such as pushing his team to work on conditioning, shooting and lifting.

Bixby’s first game of the season is at Owasso on Dec. 5.
